Minsk to invite intl observers to parliamentary elections
MINSK. May 17 (Interfax) - Belarus intends to invite international organizations to monitor the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Belarusian Central Elections Commission Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina has said.
"Of course, the Foreign Ministry will send formal invitations to international organizations which monitor elections and are the most authoritative," Yermoshina told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday.
It is planned to invite observers from the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the CIS amongst others, she said.
The Central Elections Commission will invite members of foreign central elections commissions to the monitoring, within the limits of its powers, Yermoshina said. She noted that the Belarusian Central Elections Commission was inviting colleagues only from those countries which invited Belarusian observers in their turn. In Europe, these are only Latvia and Lithuania.
Belarus is due to hold parliamentary elections on September 11, 2016.
