Jabhat al-Nusra continues hostilities near Syria's Aleppo, in three provinces - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - Militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (banned in Russia) conducted hostilities in the area of the Aleppo and in the provinces of Hama, Damascus and Latakia in Syria in the past day, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a report published on its website on Tuesday.
"Groups of the Jabhat al-Nusra international terrorist organization continue the hostilities. They fired multiple rocket launchers and mortars on the al-Ashrafia, Sheikh Maqsood, Salaheddin districts and used multiple rocket launchers against the populated localities of Handrat, Hailan and Braij Er Rih over the past day," the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said in its bulletin.
In the Syrian province of Hama, Jabhat al-Nusra militants attacked governmental troops by use of tanks and mortars from the side of Al-Rastan. "Multiple rocket launchers and mortars shelled the towns of Maharda, Scalbiyah and Zellakiyat," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Jabhat al-Nusra's mortars attacked positions of the Syrian army stationed near the populated locality of Marj-Sultan in the Damascus province," the ministry said.
"In the northern part of the Latakia province, governmental forces prevented attempts of terrorists from the Jabhat al-Nusra group to launch an offensive near the populated locality of Haddadah," it said.
