Interior Ministry confirms raider on bank in eastern Moscow eliminated
MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - A man, who has attacked a bank office in eastern Moscow on Wednesday evening, is eliminated in the special operation, spokesperson of the Interior Ministry's Moscow Main Directorate Sofia Khotina told Interfax.
"A man, who has attacked the bank, is eliminated in the special operation. All staff members of the bank are alive," she said.
A law enforcement source has previously said that an unidentified man, who has attacked the bank in eastern Moscow, is probably neutralized. Meanwhile, several shots were heard from the direction of the bank building.
A law enforcement source has earlier told Interfax about the bank raid in eastern Moscow. The man entered an office of Credit Bank of Moscow on Pervomaiskaya street at about 8.40 p.m. and demanded to be given cash, he said. The bank staff pressed the alarm button, following which the man barricaded himself with them in the office.
The Russian Interior Ministry has confirmed later that an unknown man with an object resembling a handgun attacked a bank office on Pervomaiskaya street in eastern Moscow. "At about 8.37 p.m. a report came that an unidentified man wearing a mask entered a bank office on Pervomaiskaya street and threatening people inside with an object similar to a handgun did not allow them to leave the building," the Interior Ministry's Moscow Main Directorate press service told Interfax.
The Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for Moscow told Interfax later that all staff members had been freed from the bank room in eastern Moscow. "Only a female bank teller remains in the bank office, but she is staying in the armored room and is in safety," the press service said.
"During the talks with policemen he called himself Alexei," he said.
The traffic on Pervomaiskaya street, where the bank office is situated, is halted at the stretch of several blocks, an Interfax correspondent reports. The tram traffic is also stopped.
A representative of Credit Bank of Moscow does not comment on the situation as of yet, promises to do this later.
