Tajikistan burns over ton of narcotics

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Law enforcement authorities burned 1 ton 516kg of narcotic substances of various sorts, which have been seized from illegal trafficking in the country within past three months.

Tajik Interior Ministry said that 125kg of heroin, 373kg of opium, 565kg of hashish, 385kg of dried cannabis, 159 wild-growing cannabis plants and other sorts of narcotic substances were destroyed.

The narcotic substances were destroyed on the grounds of court verdicts, the ministry said.

The narcotics were burned in the presence of the representatives from the media, prosecution authorities, court and other relevant institutions.
