Russian servicemen injured in road accident in South Ossetia taken to Vladikavkaz hospitals

TSKHINVAL. May 20 (Interfax) - Servicemen injured in a road accident in South Ossetia were moved from the Tskhinval republican hospital last night, an ICU doctor told Interfax on Friday.

"By now, all Russian officers have been moved for transportation to Russia; the condition of the patients allowed their relocation to Vladikavkaz hospitals last night, then a decision will be made and the patients will be transported to Moscow depending on their condition. The officers have severe brain injuries; we have given them first aid," the doctor said.

A bus transporting Russian officers fell into an abyss on the Tskhinval - Kanchaveti road on Thursday. The accident killed six and 16 suffered injuries.

"A bus traveling within a motor convoy was transporting formation officers to the area of battalion command exercises," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a report. According to it, the road accident was caused by a failure of the bus's brakes.

On the orders of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, a plane with two military medical teams onboard departed from the Chkalovsky airfield in the Moscow region to help and to airlift the patients to the Burdenko and Vishnevsky hospitals in Moscow.
