Russian Defense Ministry announces plans to repair Black Sea-based Bereg artillery system

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to repair and upgrade the Bereg coastal artillery system based at the Black Sea.

The ministry has announced a tender for inspection and assessment of the technical condition of the system that includes four self-propelled single-weapon artillery mounts, a central fire control unit and a combat support vehicle, according to the government procurement website.

The work is to be carried in the village of Utash in Krasnodar Territory, according to the statement.

"On completing the work the contractor will provide the customer with a work completion statement and a list of the system's units, nodes, mechanisms, equipment and electrical equipment to be replaced or repaired," according to the document.

The maximum (starting) price of the contract is 5 million rubles.

The Bereg system is designed to destroy and suppress maritime and coastal targets, provide support for a grouping of ground troops on the seashore, counter an amphibious force, provide cover for bases, coastal facilities and its own coastal communications. The system is capable of destroying small and medium ships and has a firing range of 20 kilometers.
