SCO observers recognize referendum in Tajikistan legitimate
MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - The mission of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) observers has revealed no violations during a referendum on making changes to the Tajik constitution, recognizes the people's expression of will, open and free, the mission said in a statement released on Monday.
"The referendum took place in accordance with the Constitutional Law 'On Referendum of the Republic of Tajikistan' and international commitments assumed by the country. The Mission recognizes the Referendum open, free and legitimate. The Mission revealed no violations of the domestic election legislation," the document reads.
The SCO observer mission said that the district election committees had worked at the polling stations in line with the legislation requirements; the turnout was high during the vote.
"No complaints and remarks concerning the mission came from other observers and voters," the report said.
As was reported, on the voting day, members of the SCO observer mission arrived to the polling stations before their opening, attended preparations of ballot papers and ballot boxes for the voting. Members of the mission visited 78 polling stations in the cities of Dushanbe, Gissar, Vahdat, Varzob and other populated localities in the republican districts and the Kulyab region.
