Former IAAF leadership for several years was covering up athletes, including from Russia and U.S., involved in doping - Mutko

MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - The former leadership of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) was covering up athletes, including Russian athletes, who were using doping, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko told reporters on Tuesday.

"Russian track and field athletics was facing problems from the point of view of a large number of doping cases. But the same happened not only in Russian track and field athletics. There were more remarkable violations, including among American athletes. It is enough to name Olympic sprint champions. It is necessary to remember that it was us who initiated all these investigations in 2014 because we saw that the International Association of Athletics Federations had been covering up athletes, including Russian athletes, for several years," he said.
