Six violations of truce observed in Syria over past day - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Six violations of the ceasefire regime were observed in Syria's Damascus and Latakia provinces in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The regime of the cessation of hostilities was complied with in a majority of provinces in the Syrian Arab Republic. Six violations of the truce were observed over the past day (five in the Damascus province and one in the Latakia province)," the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said in its bulletin.
Formations from the Jaysh al-Islam group, identifying itself as part of the opposition, opened mortar and small arms fire on Syrian army positions near the populated localities of Duma, Haush-Harabu, Haush al-Farah, Jaubar and Ziblin in the Damascus province.
"The populated locality of Kermel in the Latakia province came under attack of multiple rocket launchers," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force did not strike opposition paramilitary units which had declared the cessation of hostilities and informed either the Russian or U.S. reconciliation center about their location," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
