Russia does not envisage special terms for concrete EU countries under food embargo - Ushakov
MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Russia does not envisage any preferences for concrete EU countries in regard to the possible lifting of the food embargo, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov said.
Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Greece on May 27-28, Ushakov was asked at a press briefing in Moscow whether the visit might raise the question of the possible lifting of Russia's food embargo from Greece, one of the countries that fell under Russian countermeasures against the EU sanctions.
"We do not envisage any special terms for concrete countries," Ushakov told the press.
Russia is not discussing the sanctions at its initiative, the presidential aide said.
"It was not us who imposed the sanctions, and our reaction was calm, Olympian, we took countermeasures, which was quite logical," Ushakov said.
He added that Greece stood for resuming the political dialogue between the European Union and Moscow.
"The Greeks are against the sanctions but they have to follow official EU policy, they constantly raise the question of resuming Greek agricultural exports to Russia, but all this is related to the package of sanctions and the package of our countermeasures," Ushakov said.
