MAKHACHKALA. May 29 (Interfax) - Law enforcement officials have identified the militants who were killed in an exchange of fire in the Derbent district of Dagestan last night, a source in the republic's law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Sunday.

"According to tentative information, one of the killed militants is Abutin Khanmagomedov, 31, the head of the so-called Derbent militant group. He was on the federal wanted persons list for the commission of terrorist attacks," the source said.

According to tentative information, the second militant is named Radzhab Ismailov. "That young guy was an accomplice. He has joined an illegal militant group recently," the source said.

The so-called Derbent group is involved in the explosion carried out on the Dzhemikent post in February 2016 and in the attack on visitors of the viewing platform of the Naryn-Kala fortress in Derbent.

According to earlier reports, two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with law enforcement officials in the Derbent district of Dagestan between the populated areas of Mitagi-Kazmalyar. According to the source, the militants may have intended to blow up a transmission tower located between these two populated areas.
