Kuzbas authorities deny reports about casualties in apartment building collapse

KEMEROVO. May 31 (Interfax) - Three people were injured in the collapse of an apartment building in Mezhdurechensk (Kemerovo region), the information about the casualties is not confirmed, head of the regional administration's media relations main directorate Anton Gorelkin told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The information about a dead man is confirmed neither in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, nor through our line. The 100% verified information is that three people suffered moderately severe injuries. There are no casualties yet. The search is under way, the debris is being removed, but there are no casualties as yet," Gorelkin said.

There is also no information that people are trapped under the debris of the apartment building, he also said.

The number of people who turned to the Mezhdurechensk sanatorium, where an evacuation center had been set up for residents of the fallen apartment building, rose from 14 to 20, he also said.

"There are five children, the others are adults, among 20 people who turned to the evacuation center," Gorelkin said.

Region's Governor Aman Tuleyev will hold a meeting to deal with the apartment building's collapse in Mezhdurechensk on Wednesday morning, he also said.

The ceilings of a wing from the first to fifth floors have collapsed in the five-storey apartment building in Mezhdurechensk on Tuesday.

It was previously reported about the death of two people and three injured.
