Russia initiates regime of quiet in Syria's Daraa - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - A regime of quiet has been introduced in the Syrian town of Daraa for 48 hours at Russia's initiative, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"A regime of quiet was introduced from 00:01 a.m. on June 1, 2016 for 48 hours at Russia's initiative with the aim of lowering the level of armed violence, stabilizing the situation, as well as ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the population living near the town of Daraa in the Damascus province," the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on its website on Wednesday that UN humanitarian cargo, which consisted of medicines and food supplies, had been delivered by motor convoy for Daraa for the first time since 2012.
This became possible due to the assistance of the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria and the purposeful work of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian military said.
