Georgian President Margvelashvili schedules parliamentary elections for October 8

TBILISI. June 3 (Interfax) - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has issued a decree on setting a date for parliamentary elections, presidential spokesperson Eka Mishveladze said at a news briefing on Friday evening.

"In keeping with Clause 2 of Article 73 of the Georgian Constitution and Part 2 of Article 108 of the Georgian Electoral Code, the next parliamentary elections in Georgia have been scheduled for October 8, 2016. The elections to the Supreme Council of the Adjarian autonomous republic have also been scheduled for October 8, 2016," Mishveladze said in quoting the presidential decree.

The decree signed by the president has been forwarded to the prime minister of Georgia, she said.

"We expect the prime minister to countersign the decree within the timeframe stipulated by the law," Mishveladze said.
