DPR accuses Kyiv of 600 attacks in past 24 hours
DONETSK. June 6 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Defense Ministry has observed almost 600 Ukrainian attacks in the past 24 hours.
"The situation in the Donetsk People's Republic tends to escalate. In the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian army shelled the republic's territory 593 times. In all, the hostiles fired 45 122mm artillery projectiles, 274 120mm mines and 82 82mm mines. Besides, gunfire was conducted by use of infantry combat vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms," Eduard Basurin, a senior officer of the DPR Defense Ministry, said at a press briefing on Monday.
The attacks were conducted on Zaitseve, Dokuchayevsk, Yasynuvata, Zhabunky, Spartak, Staromykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Sakhanka, Oktyabr and Kominternove, he said.
The attacks damaged eight homes in Donetsk and wounded one civilian, Basurin said.
The Ukrainian army launched about 120 attacks on the Kominternove area over the past day, he said.
"Besides, a customs officer was injured by a shot fired from a sniper weapon with a silencer while checking a vehicle at the Mayorske checkpoint. Characteristically, such weapons are used by mercenaries and private military companies," Basurin said.
