Russia will help resume direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations - Lavrov

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Russia is ready to promote the resumption of direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine as part of the efforts of the "quartet" of international mediators (the EU, Russia, the U.S. and the UN), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Russia indeed has a very good trusting relationship with both Palestine and Israel. We are ready to use this relative advantage as actively as possible to come out of this deadlock and resume direct negotiations," Lavrov said at a press conference he gave jointly with his Jordanian counterpart.

"Like I said, we will do it in the united position of the 'quartet' fully maintaining the solidarity of this quartet," the minister said.

"We will also promote the strengthening of close interaction between the Quartet and the Arab League, as the author of the Arab peace initiative, which is very significant to our further efforts," Lavrov said.
