Russian Foreign Ministry finds French Senate's decision on sanctions to be step in right direction
MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has positively characterized the adoption by the French Senate of a resolution on gradual softening of the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia.
"The decision made by the French Senate is a step in the right direction. I think everyone has long been tired of the sanctions, both in Europe and here," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov told Interfax.
On Wednesday, the French Senate passed in the first reading a resolution calling for the EU sanctions against Russia to be softened. The resolution is recommendatory in nature.
The document "calls for gradual partial softening of the sanctions regime on Russia, specifically, of the economic sanctions." The authors of the resolution also call for a revision of the diplomatic and political sanctions.
The authors of the document, in particular, suggested that the government "call on European partners to work on lifting individual sanctions imposed against Russian parliamentarians."
