Rosenergoatom begins construction of Kursk 2 nuclear power plant
VORONEZH. June 15 (Interfax) - Rosenergoatom Concern , the electric power division of Rosatom, has begun building the Kursk 2 nuclear power plant, the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant said in a press release.
Investment in the project will exceed 400 billion rubles, Kursk NPP director Vyacheslav Fedyukin is cited in the statement as saying. Tax revenue from construction of Kursk 2 NPP is expected to total 280 million rubles a year.
Investment in 2016 will amount to about 10 billion rubles in 2016, up from the 2.8 billion rubles spent on preparatory work in 2015.
The Kursk 2 facility is being built to replace power blocks at Kursk NPP being withdrawn from service. In all the Kursk 2 plant is stipulated to have four power blocks with new-generation VVER-TOI reactors. Each block will have 1.255 gigawatts of installed capacity.
Startup of commercial operation of the first two blocks of the Kursk 2 plant will be synchronized with the de-commissioning of power blocks at the existing nuclear plant. Construction costs for the N1 and N2 blocks of the Kursk 2 facility running to 2023 are estimated to total 225 billion rubles.
The N1 block is provisionally scheduled to enter service in 2020, N2 in 2023, N3 in 2024 and N4 in 2026.
Rosenergoatom is the investor and technical originator for the facility. NIAEP is the general designer and general contractor. Kursk NPP is part of Rosenergoatom.
