Kyiv estimates number of displaced persons in Donbas at 800,000
KYIV. June 15 (Interfax) - The actual number of persons displaced from Donbas is about 800,000, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons, Heorhiy Tuka, said.
"The actual number of people living in the territory of 'big' Ukraine is approximately 800.000," Tuka said at the conference entitled "Political Rights of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine" in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Tuka went on to explain that the survey in question was done by international organizations that had analyzed the increase of load on education institutions, maternity hospitals, also spotted in the areas where displaced persons get registered, as well as changing mortality dynamics and other indicators.
The number of registered displaced persons is currently in excess of 1.7 million people, Tuka revealed, citing data published by Ukraine's Ministry of Social Policy.
