Russia must continue work with OPEC, although cartel no longer taking practical steps - Novak
ST. PETERSBURG. June 16 (Interfax) - Russia needs to continue constructive work with OPEC, despite the fact that the cartel is no longer taking the kind of proactive, practical steps it did previously, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with RBC.
"An organization such as OPEC cannot be disregarded, although there are serious differences of opinion within the organization, there are those that produce a great volume at low cost and those that produce less at a significantly higher cost," Novak said.
Intensive work with OPEC will be continued as the new secretary general, Mohammed Barkindo, takes up his duties.
"We must continue establishing constructive work with the OPEC countries, although on the practical plane it is no longer undertaking the kind of practical steps it did in the 1970s," Novak said.
