German foreign minister expected to pay official visit to Georgia in July

TBILISI. July 16 (Interfax) - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will pay an official visit to Georgia in July, the Georgian government administration said on Thursday.

"The details of this visit were discussed on Thursday, in a meeting in Berlin, between the German foreign minister and Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The main issue of the conversation was the issue of granting Georgia a visa-free regime with the European Union. It was stated that Germany will assist Georgia in that process," the Georgian government administration said in its report.

The report said that the parties had discussed security issues in the Southern Caucasus region, and the situation "in the occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and the Tskhival region."

"It was stated in this context that Germany, as the country chairing the OSCE, is actively involved in conflict settlement. The German foreign minister said his country welcomes the Georgian government's intention to pursue constructive policies in the region to strengthen security and stability in the region," the report said.
