Kremlin: inappropriate to raise issue of Mutko's dismissal if Russian track-and-field team disqualified
MOSCOW. June 17 (Interfax) - It is inappropriate to raise the issue of the possible dismissal of Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko in the event that the Russian track-and-field team is disqualified from the Rio Olympics, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
During a press conference Peskov recalled that the decision as to whether Russian track-and-field athletes will be banned from participation at the Olympic Games will be adopted on Friday evening. Following that, he was asked whether Mutko will be 'liable to the point of dismissal' in the event of the disqualification of the Russian team.
"I believe, it is not appropriate to raise this issue, because I do not know if it is expedient to link such a decision to the liability of the sports minister. But in any case, before any decisions about our track-and-field athletes are voiced, I cannot give any comment on that," he said.
In this case, one has simply to wait, he said. Peskov was asked under what conditions Mutko would have to resign.
"I do not want to enter this discussion," he said.
