Russian Emergency Situations Ministry: 12 children hurt in accident in Karelia lake are hospitalized

PETROZAVODSK. June 20 (Interfax) - The twelve children hurt in the accident in Syamozero Lake in Karelia are hospitalized, Igor Panin, the head of the northwestern regional center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, told a meeting organized by Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov upon arrival in Petrozavodsk.

"Of the 33 children, 12 have been hospitalized. There is no threat to their life," Panin said.

He said the other 21 children are accommodated in a cadet school and they are provided with food and medical assistance.

A Karelia Health Ministry official said two of the hospitalized children have injuries and bruises, including a head injury, and a concussion. "Ten children are in infectious hospitals with respiratory infections," the official said.
