Kremlin refuses to comment on possible dismissal of Russian national football team head coach
MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to answer a question as to whether Leonid Slutsky deserves dismissal from the post of Russian national football team head coach following the team's participation in UEFA Euro-2016 in France.
"I still believe I have no right to say anything about that," Peskov told reporters.
The Welsh national team defeated the Russian team in the match of the final tour of the group stage of UEFA Euro-2016 in France by a score of 3:0. Gareth Bale scored the final goal in the 67th minute of the match, emerging from the backs of the Russian players face to face with Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev.
Wales won first place in Group B with six points, and the Russian national football team was out of the championship having scored last place in the group.
The national team's head coach Slutsky assumed responsibility for the team's failure at the championship in France. "I believe, after such a tournament it is necessary for another person to try to prepare the team for further take-offs, which are very important and decisive in many ways for the development of football in our country," he said at a press conference following the match with Wales.
