Policy of peace allowed Minsk to become main venue for peace negotiations on Ukraine - Lukashenko

MINSK. June 22 (Interfax) - Belarus has become a regional security donor, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said, calling for preservation of peace in the country as well.

"The global community considers Belarus a donor of regional security," Lukashenko said at the fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly in Minsk on Wednesday.

"Being situated in the center of Europe we cannot stay out of challenges and threats," he said.

In this regard he recalled that the country's policy of peace allowed Belarus to become the main venue of peace negotiations on Ukraine.

Moreover, Lukashenko noted that "through the example of our neighbors we become sure that the distance between peace and war may be a very short one." "Thus, addressing the security issues, I always say that one has to keep their powder dry," he said.

The main task is "to preserve peace in the country and to preserve the country itself," he said.
