Belarus to continue building NPP, IAEA has no complaints - Lukashenko

MINSK. June 22 (Interfax) - Belarus will continue building its nuclear power plant (NPP) despite criticism of the project, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"We will take a significant step forward by building the nuclear power plant and, naturally, we will become more competitive and because of this they are now starting to bring us down. The people must know that. We know that and we will not kneel," Lukashenko said at the fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly in Minsk on Wednesday.

He said, "we will build what we have planned."

"I tell you straight, the relevant organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA], have no complaints against us in terms of compliance with all the regulations and conditions [during the construction of the NPP]," he said.

As reported, Lithuania is the most vocal opponent of the construction of the Belarusian NPP.
