Wildfires raging in 3 Far East districts, flames spread across approx. 100 hectares in past 24 hours
KHABAROVSK. June 24 (Interfax) - Far Eastern forestry services were fighting a dozen wildfires in the past 24 hours, the Far Eastern Federal District forestry department said.
"Four wildfires broke out in the Far East over the past day. In all, 12 fires were observed, including four in the Khabarovsk territory, three each in the Magadan region and the Chukchi autonomous region, and one each in the Kamchatka territory and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)," the report said.
Flames spread across 94.2 hectares in that period, mostly in the Chukchi autonomous region and the Khabarovsk territory. The fires were fought by 132 men, eight vehicles and five aircraft.
"Two fires were put out in the early morning of June 24, while ten fires kept burning, three each in the Magadan region and the Chukchi autonomous region, and four in the Khabarovsk territory," the report said.
The Far East has seen 989 forest fires across 465,700 hectares since the beginning of this wildfire season, the department said. Thirteen fires were burning across 179 hectares in the district on June 23.
