Putin informed about Belykh's detention; no consultations held beforehand, as law enforcement work independently - Kremlin spokesman
MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed about Kirov Region Governor Nikita Belykh's detention, but the law enforcement agencies had not held consultations on the matter beforehand, as they work independently, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Naturally, this detention has been reported to the president. The law enforcement and investigative agencies work independently, and therefore we are not talking about any preliminary consultations here," Peskov told journalists when asked whether the president had been notified about Belykh's detention beforehand.
Peskov refrained from saying how he would assess Belykh's performance as a governor. "I'd rather not do that. There are ratings compiled by various expert organizations," he said.
"Perhaps it's better to refer to ratings that are based on specific criteria rather than general judgments," he said.
