Roscosmos plans to increase telecom satellite cluster

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - The cluster of telecom satellites will grow from 32 to 41 vehicles under the Federal Space Program for 2016-2025, the Roscosmos press service said on Tuesday.

"As a result, mobile presidential and governmental communication, television and radio broadcast in the Russian territory, transmission of messages, voice and document communication, and status control and operation of hazardous and vital infrastructures in the interests of federal executive authorities will be 100% ensured by 2025," the state corporation said in a report published on its website.

Enlargement of the satellite group will ensure global and continuous telecommunication service for low-orbit observation satellites, control and operation of the International Space Station (ISS) and transmission of telemetry from launch vehicles and booster units in launches, it said.

"Capacities of telecom satellites will grow almost 2.5-fold in direct television services, high-definition television, broad-band Internet service, data transfer, videoconferences, and departmental and corporate communication networks. Telecom satellites deployed in a highly elliptical orbit will resolve the problem of telecommunication for the Arctic region," the report said.
