MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Russia will deliver no weapons to the Libyan authorities, until the relevant international restrictions are lifted, Russian Ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotkov said on Tuesday.
"Until the Security Council [UN] cancels this resolution or at least modifies it towards softening, any weapon supplies from Russia to Libya are out of the question," Molotkov told Interfax.
Besides, the diplomat did not name the timeframe of the possible lifting of the effective embargo.
However, the Libyan side has raised the issue of weapons supplies to Libya at the meetings between visiting Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan army Khalifa Haftar, and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, in Moscow on Tuesday, he said.
Haftar is also expected to visit the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he is due to hold talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Tuesday, either, Molotkov said.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Libyan government of national accord Ahmed Maiteeq is expected to arrive in Moscow later on Tuesday, the diplomat also said.
"The objective of his visit, as well as other representatives of Libyan authorities, is to seek a consensus, compromise and to reach national reconciliation," Molotkov said.
