Russia, Kazakhstan may sign intergovernmental agreement on cooperation for better information security - Russia Security Council

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - The cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in terms of counteracting against foreign terrorists was discussed during the bilateral consultations on security issues held by the two nations' security councils on Tuesday, the Russian Security Council press service told Interfax.

"The parties confirmed the need for further consolidation of regional and interregional mechanisms of cooperation on the struggle against international terrorism, and coordination of actions aimed to cut off terrorist fund flows," the press service said following the consultations held in Kazakhstan.

The consultations were run by Russia's Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Kazakhstan's Security Council Secretary Nurlan Yermekbayev.

"The counterparts discussed counteraction against religious extremism, international terrorism and illegal sales of drugs, analyzed the overall situation in the entire Central Asia region, mapped out plans for further interaction between employees of the Russian and Kazakh security councils," the press service said.

Patrushev stated that it is necessary to draft an intergovernmental agreement between the two countries on cooperation to facilitate international information security and therefore, renew the holding of bilateral interagency consultations in this regard, according to the Russian Security Council.

Employees of the Russian and Kazakh security councils, officials from Russia's Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service (FSB), Kazakhstan's National Security Committee, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Foreign Ministry took part in the consultations.
