Syria truce regime joined by 166 populated localities - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax-AVN) - As many as 166 populated localities have joined the truce regime in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"A truce agreement has been concluded with representatives of a populated locality in the Homs province in the past 24 hours. The number of populated localities engaged in the reconciliation process has risen to 166," the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said in a bulletin.
The document was published on the Russian Defense Ministry's website on Tuesday.
"Negotiations on joining the cessation of hostilities regime continued with the field commanders of armed opposition units in the provinces of Damascus, Homs and Daraa," the Russian military said.
A total of 61 armed units have declared their adherence to the cessation of hostilities in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The cessation of hostilities regime was complied with in a majority of provinces of the Syrian Arab Republic over the past day," the ministry said.
According to it, four violations were observed in the Damascus province in the past 24 hours.
"Formations of the Jaysh al-Islam group, identifying itself as opposition, opened mortar fire on Syrian army positions in the populated localities of Jaubar, Harasta, Haush al-Hayat and Huteira al-Jarash," the Defense Ministry said.
