Ankara representative declares stricter security measures on border with Syria

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The Turkish authorities are tightening security on the border with Syria, head of the Turkish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Ramazan Can said, responding to an Interfax question.

"Relevant measures are being taken to deny trans-border access to members of those organizations, among them ISIL [a terrorist organization banned in Russia] and the Kurdistan Workers' Party. We are trying to reinforce the border so that we can protect our citizens," he said.

The hostilities in Syria directly impact Turkish border areas, Can said.

"There is a war in Syria. Shells sporadically fly over to Turkish territory. We are cooperating with friendly countries in the fight against terrorist organizations," the head of the PABSEC Turkish delegation said.
