Serbia-EU integration should not hinder Serbian relations with Russia - Naryshkin
MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - Russia understands Serbia's intention to integrate with the European Union, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said.
"We have always treated with understanding Serbia's plans of integration with the European Union," Naryshkin told Serbian National Assembly President Maja Gojkovic on the sidelines of the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) General Assembly on Thursday.
"Russia has never forced your country to choose between Russia and the European Union, like the European Union did in case of Ukraine," he said.
"The current developments in Ukraine are the result of that attitude of the EU," Naryshkin said.
"Of course, it is important for Russia that Serbia's rapprochement with the European Union, integration with the European Union do not hinder the development" of bilateral relations with Russia.
