Terrorist threat persists in Turkey - MP Klintsevich

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - The terrorist threat in Turkey persists, and one should not view the renewed selling of Turkish tours as a recommendation to immediately go there on vacation, Federation Council Defense and Security Committee First Deputy Chairman Franz Klintsevich said.

"All of us are interested in a change in the Turkey situation. For now, it is still a country facing a real terrorist threat. Every one of us is free to choose but should also act with full awareness, moreover that there are vacation spots for Russians in their home country," Klintsevich's press service quoted him as saying.

"Here is my candid advice: take care of yourselves and your families," he said.

The parliamentarian said he understood at a basic level why the Russian president had lifted the ban on selling Turkish tours.

"Big politics is at stake, and it seems that Vladimir Putin has had to reciprocate the Turkish moves towards restoring normal relations between our countries. Naturally, he was guided in the first turn by the strategic interests of Russia and paid attention to the global situation," Klintsevich said.

He added that the statement was addressed chiefly to the Turkish side rather than to Russian tourists.

"There are no grounds to view the lifting of the ban on Turkish tours as a recommendation for Russians to immediately go there on vacation," Klintsevich said.
