Duma proposes U.S. military to work with Russia on new incidents at sea agreement

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Russia and the United Sates should draft a new agreement on the prevention of incidents at sea, Washington should stop blaming Moscow of provoking military incidents, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee and a former Black Sea Fleet commander, told Interfax on Friday.

"I would like to tell the Americans: find new arguments, and better yet, let us work on a new draft of the agreement on the prevention of incidents at sea," Komoyedov said, commenting on a new statement by the U.S. military who accused a Russian ship of unprofessional maneuvers.

"It is time they changed their tune and stopped responding like robots. After the incidents in the Far East and in Asia it is now clear to everyone whose maneuvers are really dangerous and unprofessional," Komoyedov said.

The U.S. Navy command again accused the Russian frigate Yaroslav Mudry of unprofessional and dangerous maneuvers in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the U.S. Defense News website.

This time around, according to the U.S. military, on June 17, 2016, the Russian ship allegedly conducted erratic and unsafe maneuvers close to the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower which was taking part in airstrikes against Islamic State (a terrorist group banned in Russia) positions in Iraq and Syria.

Furthermore, according to Washington, the Yaroslav Mudry came dangerously close to the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, which was providing air support for the aircraft carrier. The U.S. military described the maneuver as "abnormal, [un]safe and unprofessional."
