CAS receives Russian Olympic Committee's claim in defense of track and field athletes, judgment due on July 21 at latest
MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - The Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has received a claim from the Russian Olympic Committee and will make a decision on access of 68 Russian track and field athletes to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in an expedited procedure, the CAS said in a report.
"The parties have agreed to an expedited procedure which should conclude on 21 July 2016 with the issuance of the final decision," the court said.
The Court said it would make no comment until its decision was ready.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council unanimously confirmed suspension of the All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) from IAAF membership in Vienna on June 17 for its failure to meet membership restoration criteria.
The International Olympic Committee on June 21 permitted 'clean' Russian athletes to participate in the Rio Olympic Games under the Russian flag. The international federation will grant Russian athletes permission to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games.
