Austria's Christine Muttonen becomes OSCE PA president
TBILISI. July 5 (Interfax) - Christine Muttonen (Austria) was elected to the post of president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) for two years during a session in Tbilisi.
Georgia's candidate, OSCE PA Vice President Gigi Tsereteli, did not receive the required number of votes during the second round vote.
Representatives of the Georgian parliamentary majority's delegation voted against Tsereteli, explaining their decision by the fact that if Tsereteli, who is a member of the former ruling party United National Movement, became OSCE PA president, he would be able to influence the political situation in Georgia and make political decisions with regard to the country's authorities, which he opposes.
The OSCE PA session completed its work in Tbilisi on Tuesday. The next OSCE PA session will be held in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, in the summer of 2017.
