Some 80% of Ukrainians would vote for Ukraine's entry into NATO in referendum - poll

KYIV. July 7 (Interfax) - Seventy-eight percent of Ukrainian citizens would support Ukraine's decision to join NATO if a referendum on this issue were held, the results of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation's recent public opinion survey show.

"[The result of] a hypothetical referendum on NATO is 78% for and 17% against, with turnout standing at 58%," the foundation's political analyst Mariia Zolkina said on her Facebook account on Wednesday.

"The referendum would be won in all of the major regions, except for Donbas. In Donbas, 48% of respondents would support it and 47% would be opposed to it," she said.

The poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center's sociological service on May 11-16, 2016.

It involved 2,016 people aged 18 and above and living in all of Ukraine's regions with the exception of districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions not controlled by Kyiv.
