Kazakh, Russian foreign ministers synchronize positions on key aspects of bilateral cooperation

ASTANA. July 13 (Interfax) - Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov met in Astana on Tuesday to discuss the current status and perspectives of regional interaction and bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry press service said on Wednesday.

"Your visit to us is a symbol of traditionally close relations between our countries, the high level of which is set by regular contacts between our leaders. Their recent meeting in St. Petersburg gave an impetus to further strengthening of economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia. Our meetings and interaction at all levels are 'in full swing'," Idrisov said as he was greeting the colleague.

The ministers focused on bilateral interaction in regional integration unions and international organizations, in particular, in the context of Kazakhstan's membership in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018, the ministry said in a press release.

"We once again congratulate Kazakhstan on being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and are ready for close interaction on that platform in the two upcoming years," the Kazakh Foreign Ministry quoted Lavrov's words.

'The meeting was held in a traditionally constructive and businesslike atmosphere and reaffirmed the allied nature of Kazakh-Russian relations," the report said.
