Putin, Rouhani, Aliyev to discuss North-South Transport Corridor, antiterrorism at meeting in Baku on Aug 8 - Iranian deputy foreign minister
ASTANA. July 13 (Interfax) - The presidents of Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan will discuss the North-South Transport Corridor and measures against terrorism at a meeting in Baku on August 8, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ibrahim Rahimpour said.
"The agenda will mostly deal with the North-South Transport Corridor, that is, the transit transportation [of goods] from the Persian Gulf to Russia," Rahimpour told journalists on Wednesday.
"Other routes passing through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia can also be predicted. This resembles the Silk Road, which China is currently considering, and will be an alternative to it. This route can be safer for all countries of the world," Rahimpour said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will discuss trade and economic relations, regional security, and measures against terrorism, he said.
"The main thing on the agenda is transit transportation, and second, trade between our countries and countries of the region, and also tourism. [The presidents] will touch upon critical problems of our region, including security problems, Middle East problems, and countermeasures against terrorism," he said.
