Poroshenko expects Ukraine-Azerbaijan goods turnover to increase threefold

BAKU. July 14 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects the goods turnover between Ukraine and Azerbaijan to increase threefold, in the first quarter of 2016, the goods turnover between the two countries has already increased by 20%.

"Now we have made an agreement that our goods turnover should increase threefold. Only in the first quarter it has already increased by 20%, but we agreed that it is not enough," he said during the meeting with the Ukrainian community in Baku on Thursday.

He said that the main efforts will be taken in the sectors of metallurgy, agriculture and the energy industry.

"The question is of Azerbaijani gas and Azerbaijani oil. We cannot depend on Russian [oil] all the time, we will diversify, because this is a matter of our national security," he said.
