Yerevan police remove placards of Founding Parliament whose members seized police building

YEREVAN. July 17 (Interfax) - Police in Armenia has removed placards containing revolutionary calls, which were put up by members of the opposition civil group, Founding Parliament on the Freedom Square in downtown Yerevan.

The placards were put up a few months ago, with one or two people sitting at a small table there round the clock, calling for "a people's fight against the Armenian authorities."

The placards were removed from the square after a police and internal troops building in Yerevan's Erebuni district was seized on Sunday.

It was reported that a group of armed people seized the police and internal Troops building in Yerevan's Erebuni District this morning, demanding a release of the coordinator of the Founding Parliament opposition group, Jirair Sefilian, who is held in custody on charges of illegal acquisition and possession of a firearm.

Founding Parliament representatives reported arrests among their supporters across the country.
