China might allow imports of poultry from Russia by year's end - minister

SARATOV. July 18 (Interfax) - China might allow imports of poultry meat from Russia in the fall or at the end of this year, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev said on Saturday.

"A decision on opening the poultry market will be made in the fall, maybe at the end of the year. Negotiations are now in an active phase," Tkachev told reporters in Saratov.

He said specialists from China are actively studying Russia's market potential, producers, quality and products.

"As for shipments of pork, here the situation is more complicated," Tkachev said. China is primarily concerned about diseases that exist in Russia. "The decision is progressing with difficulty," the minister said.
