Ulyukayev calls on Japanese business to invest in transport, communications, logistics, power grids
TOKYO. July 19 (Interfax) - Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev called on the Japanese business community to invest in transportation, communications, logistical and power grid infrastructure.
"We know that a number of sectors of the Russian economy are substantially underinvested. This most of all concerns infrastructure: transportation infrastructure, communications infrastructure, logistics, power grids, and here we would like to work together with our Japanese colleagues on the improvement of investment conditions," he said at a meeting with the Japanese business community.
"These blocks of investment projects that we now are considering with our Japanese colleagues are structured in accordance with the plan from eight points, and these are very important areas, which concern to a large extent the non-energy sectors," Ulyukayev said.
Energy, he said, cannot be overlooked: there are projects, which are connected with the future development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, for example. However, most of this concerns the processing sector.
This concerns chemistry, petrochemistry, projects in the field of medicines and support of healthy lifestyles: a medical cluster in the Far East and central Russia, projects in the high tech industry, which concerns the support of start-ups and the commercialization of research and development," he said.
"We are speaking about the fact that such areas as space exploration, as IT, electronic commerce, and research in nuclear energy will be an important cornerstone in the technological component of our cooperation," he said.
