Russia - Japan energy bridge was discussed, but only generally - Ulyukayev

TOKYO. July 20 (Interfax) - Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said that the project to build an energy bridge from Russia to Japan was discussed during his visit to the country, but only in general terms.

"We discussed the possibility of implementing the energy bridge project, in other words establishing thermal generation on the basis of Sakhalin gas production projects, generating electricity and transmitting it to Japan," Ulyukayev told reporters.

"But this discussion is really of a fairly general nature. On the part of Japan they need to make the relevant regulatory decisions that would make it possible to implement this," Ulyukayev said.

Hopefully this issue will progress to a stage of more specific discussion, the minister said.
