Russia banning feed imports from 8 suppliers July 29 due to GMO

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Veterinary and Phyto-Sanitary Oversight Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) is banning imports of feed and feed additives from eight suppliers in a number of countries as of July 29 because undeclared genetically modified (GM) lines have been found in them, the watchdog said.

The ban applies to four suppliers in Argentina, two in Brazil, one in China and one in Germany, Rosselkhoznadzor said. Two of the suppliers found in violation are owned by Bunge.

The ban applies to products from Bunge Argentina S.A., Renova S.A., Santa FE Argentina/Senasa, Vicentin S.A.I.C. (Argentina), Bunge Alimentos and Louis Dreyfus Commodities Brasil S.A. (Brazil), Hamburg Aktiengesellschaft (Germany), and Cofco Biochemical Energy (China).

Rosselkhoznadzor said that if products from these suppliers shipped prior to the imposition of the restrictions arrive in Russia, decisions on whether to allow entry to such shipments will be made as usual with subsequent mandatory lab tests for undeclared GM ingredients.
