Head of Russian Union of Journalists dismisses assumptions of "Russian connection" in killing of journalist Sheremet in Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - The Russian Union of Journalists and international journalistic organizations will monitor the investigation into the killing of journalist Pavel Sheremet, Vsevolod Bogdanov, the head of the Russian Union of Journalists, told Interfax.

"It's a big tragedy. We will now monitor the investigation into this tragedy in cooperation with the International Federation of Journalists and the European Federation of Journalists," Bogdanov told Interfax on Wednesday.

He also said he intends to contact Ukrainian colleagues.

"We were in contact with them throughout all these years of crazy hostility and enmity, we are trying to find a common language. I think our Ukrainian colleagues can draw some conclusions about what is happening in their country," Bogdanov said.

The head of the International Federation of Journalists ruled out the possibility of a "Russian connection."

"It's just a desire to confuse the investigation. I don't believe in the possibility of a 'Russian connection'," Bogdanov said.

According to earlier reports, journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed as a result of a car explosion on Wednesday morning.
