Russian track-and-field athlete Tarabin to file individual lawsuit to CAS

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian javelin thrower Dmitry Tarabin intends to file an individual lawsuit to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to the ban from the international competitions, including the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

"I will personally file a lawsuit to the CAS. I have arguments; I have evidence that I regularly attend training camps. I have the copies of the doping tests records. I will collect all the package [of documents] and would like to file a claim to the CAS," he said in an interview with the Match TV channel.

"The problem is that this very expensive now, at least $15,000 for a claim. Maybe there will be some sponsors to help our athletes in these difficult times. The track-and-field athletics is not such a wealthy sport for every athlete to be able to afford filing a lawsuit," he said.

He added that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is aware that the majority of athletes cannot file a lawsuit and find a lawyer because of the shortage of finances.

On Thursday the CAS said that the lawsuit by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and 68 Russian track-and-field athletes against the IAAF had been rejected.

Earlier the IAAF Council upheld the decision to ban the All-Russia Athletics Federation (RusAF), which denied the Russian national track-and-field athletics team the opportunity to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games in Brazil will be held on August 5-21.
