Political interference in sports has become high beyond all reason - Mutko

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko believes political interference in sports has become "high beyond all reason."

"I professionally develop sports and I can tell you that interference in sports, political attention to sports has become high beyond all reason in the past few years," Mutko told a press conference on Thursday.

Mutko said increased attention to the FIFA World Cup, which Russia will host in 2018, is a fine example of that.

"We see that someone doesn't like that the state policies in the sphere of sports are a priority in the Russian Federation. We want to make a healthy nation. We are conducting many big sports events. We have now revived our traditions in sports, and, trust me, it's not due to doping," the minister said.
